I have been through many people and listening to their thoughts about second-hand car/bike in India. I won't deny that they all of their concerns are wrong, or I will say all of there or your concerns are right and you be careful while thinking and buying second-hand car/bike.

If you are in hurry to buy a second hand, then it's better you should just skip the thought of buying one as it will be all on luck; because it will not be. As just by reducing the price of the car/bike you will think its deal of the day and you will close the deal but you will end up with a mistake which will hunt you for a long time.


Buying a second-hand car/bike is like fishing, you need to be patient and the 1st thing that comes in your hook need not be the best for you, you need to keep trying till you think its best for you. so, put that bait again in the water.

In India, if people get to know that you are buying a second-hand car/bike, they will discourage you or just look down upon you. I don’t know when will people understand that it's not a bad thing to buy a second-hand vehicle. Some person wants to sell there car/bike either to buy new and better one or for there other needs, but if its because it has turned into a scrap and they want to get rid of it then you have to be careful.

Even me and some of my friends have bought a second-hand car/bike. But it took each one of us at least 1 month to get into a decision of buying a second-hand car because of which none has any regrets. But even thinking too much is bad.
So, let us do the thinking for you.


Now, here are the 5 things you should look for before buying a second-hand car.

Get the car and its papers checked and verified properly.

  1. Check the present insurance papers of the used car you are going to buy. You will be able to find if the car has had any accidents/claims related to those
  2. Check if the engine number and chassis no
  3. Check all the filters of the used car, & get them changed if necessary All filters (air, fuel, transmission, oil) need regular cleaning and oiling
  4. Check the brakes of the second-hand car. Drive the car at 40-50 km/h speed in an area that has little to no traffic. Be sure to look for any vibration or any kind of strange and squealing noise from the brake pedal
  5. Examine the tires carefully. Check the condition of all the tires.
  6. Check under the hood for signs of damage, scratches or rust – they are signs of a poorly maintained car or a prior damaged one

Transfer the registration certificate to your name.
To do the transfer you should fill out and submit Form 29 & Form 30, issued by the RTO in the jurisdiction you live in. The form should be signed by both the previous owner and you. If the car is registered in a different jurisdiction from yours, then a NOC from that jurisdiction's RTO will help pace up the process. This registers the transaction.

After submission, the local RTO initiates the transfer. You will receive a receipt within 15-18 days & the name-changed RC copy by the 40th-45th day. In the interim, copies of these forms or the receipt work as proof of the transaction.

NCB is given to the insured & not the insured vehicle. So, on the transfer of the vehicle, the insurance policy can be transferred to the new owner but not the NCB. The new owner has to pay the difference on account of the NCB for the remaining policy period. The original owner can, however, use the NCB on a new vehicle purchased by him.

Clean and fix your car before your first drive

  1. A thorough clean up of the car
  2. Change of fluids
  3. Quick fixes to be done: Fix lights, spark plugs and any sign of rusting. Water entry through cracks and holes or other wear of the trunk should also be fixed.

This is not enough though. You have to ask some questions before buying a used car. Here is the list of questions you should ask before buying it.

  1. How was the car maintained?
Find out if it was serviced at a dealership, by an independent mechanic or a “shade tree” mechanic — one not affiliated with a garage — says Josh Sadlier, senior manager of content strategy at Edmunds.com. Also, ask if the maintenance is up-to-date. Some sellers will even suggest you speak to the mechanic who worked on the car.

2. Are service records available?
Hopefully, the answer to this question is, “Yes. All the records are in a folder and you’re welcome to look it over.” This tells you the seller probably has serviced the car regularly.

3. Has it been in any accidents?
In some cases, accidents are reported on a vehicle history report — but don’t assume these reports catch everything. If the car was in an accident, find out how it was damaged and how it was fixed.

4. What features don’t work the way they’re supposed to?
Older used car/bike nearly always have something wrong with them. It might not be a deal breaker — for example, if it’s a malfunctioning CD player. But other defects can come as annoying surprises, such as weak air conditioning, blown speakers or missing pixels in displays.

5. Is there any reason you wouldn’t drive the car coast-to-coast tomorrow?
This is a fun question and sometimes throws the seller off balance. But if the answer is a resounding “No, there’s nothing wrong with the car,” that’s a nice vote of confidence.

6. What is the ownership history?
“If the seller doesn’t really have many details about the car or only owned it a short time, that’s a warning sign,” Holthoff says. “I’m looking for a seller who really cared for the car for several years or more.” When searching for good used car/bike, he recommends using keywords like “original owner” or “service records” or even “garaged.”

7. Why are you selling the car?
“This is very predictable since many sellers will have a convenient story at the ready,” Sadlier says. But he recommends relying on your “spidey senses” when deciding whether to trust the answer — and the seller.

8. How did you arrive at this price?
If you’ve asked all the above questions, and you’re getting serious about buying the car, find out how the seller priced it. Many people simply pick a figure out of the air. If the seller says he or she used a pricing guide, you can double check to see if the price is accurate.

9. Can I take the car to a mechanic for an inspection?
Again, ask this only if you’re serious about buying. Most reputable sellers won’t balk at this request. If there’s hesitation or pushback, that’s the warning sign for you.

10. Do you have the title in hand?
A long-time owner might not know where the title is hiding. A seller might not have the title if there’s an outstanding loan from the bank. There are some ways to work around these problems, but knowing the status of the title early on will help you decide if the car is worth the extra time and hassle.

HONDA CRF1000L Africa Twin


Honda Africa twin 2018, yes, they have based this on their Dakar rally bike which is CRF 450 rally. Which means this bike has a very big shoe to fill, as the rally bikes mean performance handling and off-roading. Just by looking at it you can say that this bike is meant to conquer all the places traveling through road, mud water and what else. When Honda was designing this bike, I don't think they tried to put anything which is not necessary.

Looks and Design
The bike is plain and simple and purposeful. Just by looking at it you can say that this bike doesn't like any competition from heavy muscular beasts with too much power to handle. Even when you look at specs and compare, you are not going to think very highly of this bike, but you will change your mind once you find her out by yourself.

As I have told before this bike is based on the Dakar rally bike and you can see it in the look. Slim body with a slim big tire in front and small fat tire at the back and really high ground clearance. They have also given a Rally Style Rider Console which has the Rally style negative LCD instrument display including Riding Modes, Speedometer, Tachometer, Fuel, Gear position, HSTC, Odometer, Trip Clock and ABS Indicator. The introduction of TBW greatly expands the choices available to the rider to manage engine output, feel and rear wheel traction.

The new HSTC system features 7 Levels – from Level 1, for aggressive riding off-road to Level 7 for maximum sense of security on slippery, wet tarmac. It remains possible to turn HSTC completely OFF. riding modes are comprised of different levels of Power (P) and Engine Braking (EB).


There are 3 levels of Power and Engine Braking available which offer pre-set combinations of each parameter, suitable to different riding environments and scenarios: TOUR, URBAN, GRAVEL. A fourth mode – USER – allows the rider to set and save his or her preferred combination of Power, EB and HSTC levels. Both riding mode and level of HSTC can be changed at any time using the controls on the left-hand switchgear.

Africa twin bears a Twin Lamp LED Headlight, which ensures brighter and richer vision when the rider is on a dark road. It also complies with the global norm of AHO (Always Headlight On). The LED also helps reduce the power consumption by 90% as compared to conventional Headlamps. LED Winkers and Taillights, The indicators and tail light of the Africa Twin, also, have the LED Lights. The Indicators are now enabled with Auto Cancel Feature, wherein the system compares the front and rear wheel speed difference and calculates when to Automatically Cancel the indicators relative to the situation.

Performance
Let's talk about performance, 1st lets start with DCT engine. The engine is Parallel Twin – 999.11cc with Max Power of 87.7 Bhp@7500rpm and 93.1 Nm Torque@6000rpm The Africa Twin retains Honda’s unique Dual Clutch Technology. An automated clutch and shift operation system that retains the direct acceleration feel of a manual transmission. Experience a more enjoyable ride by focusing on the sensations of accelerating, turning and braking your motorcycle.

And combined with all the modes and the wired throttle accelerator they have been able to make this DCT one of the best around. Whether it is on-road or off-road by setting the system as you want you can change when the gear should change do u want it to change quickly or you want it to hold till the red line. You can even take the controls of changing gears to the manual, keys of both up and down are on the left handlebar, but the automatic is so good that you might never use it.

Next what comes is the suspension, Front Showa 45mm cartridge-type inverted (Upside Down) telescopic fork with dial-style preload adjuster and DF adjustment, 230mm stroke. Rear: Monoblock cast aluminum swingarm with Pro-Link with gas-charged damper, hydraulic dial-style preload adjuster and rebound damping adjustment, 220 mm rear wheel travel. When you start riding on roads you might think of 1st the ride quality is way too soft for the road, and yes it is but once you go off the road then you will understand the reason of pre-suspension setup of the bike, and as it is adjustable you can stiffen it up for roads but the pres setup is really good in absorbing the bumps.


The brakes (ABS) feature 310mm ‘wave’ style, twin floating front discs with Nissin 4-pot radial calipers for plenty of feels and strong stopping power. The rear disc is a 256 mm ‘wave’ style with a 1-pot caliper. Off-road riders will appreciate the fact that they can turn the ABS function off for the rear wheel. Initial bit is soft but it gives confidence and stopping distance is good. Combined all this bike is really good at offroading it can take you roughly anywhere on land with comfort, the riding position standing or in seating is comfortable. It's not just comfort but it gives you to push it hard and as you know the bike will keep you in check.

Even on road, it is really comfortable to ride even on long distance, yes it is not a bike to have fun on twisty roads but it takes you around in comfort even on hairpin u-turn because of long wheelbase it has longer turn radius but its enough to get you around.

This bike is best suited for those who are not looking for power but practicality, a bike which is comfortable but at the same time tough enough to take you anywhere on or off road at any time or at any distance. Not for those who want an adventure off-road bike which is for a show.

NISSAN KICKS 2019 review

 

Nissan kicks, the Japanese manufacturer’s attempt to enter in the compact SUV segment.
Will they succeed? Is the kick enough to beat the competitors? Let us analyze and compare this kick-ass SUV.

Their direct competition is with Hyundai Creta, which is currently leading in his segment. Creta has been dominant in this segment for a long time but can’t ignore the Renault Captur though.


Looks and Design
Chassis is similar to the Duster, but with different angles, it won't be easy to recognize it. It looks way sportier and sharper. Boomerang style rear light and sharper cuts and body line with 210mm ground clearance add to the grand SUV appeal. The scenario changes when we look inside; instead of going for the full plastic dashboard, you can find soft smooth leather which makes it looks more premium. With a bit of plastic which has a shade like carbon fiber to give it a touch of a sporty feel.

You can find a big 8-inch infotainment system which is clear and easy to use, Oh si!. One change you will find in 2019 Kicks is that its speedometer has changed a bit, or should I say changed a bit differently. In the 2019 model, there are two analog meters that show fuel quantity and acceleration and, there is no speedometer. Wait, there is a digital speedometer at the center of these analog meters, wow! That’s a change we didn’t expect.


Leather finish on the dashboard is awesome, and seats are a premium looking leather coated. Leg space for passengers is good but not the headroom, if you're tall you are going to feel your hair/head rubbing up against the roof. Kicks are larger than Creta.

It has got a camera below the rearview mirror which helps it to create a 360° view to park and move around in tight spots. It has also got 2 airbags as standard and 5 on higher variants. With ESC, brake assist and traction control system, it has even got 4-star safety rating with 2 airbags.

Performance
Let's talk about performance. It has the same engine as that of Renault Captur in that sense it is not most powerful on the segment either. Still power delivery is smooth and linear. Which means you won't feel it aggressive but it is not like you won't enjoy it. Suspension setup is soft and well set up for Indian roads, because of which it can absorb most of the bumps like a champ, combined with the high ground clearance can go through most of the normal bad road you will find.

Automatic climate control, ABS with EBD & brake assist, hill start, voice commands, cruise control, cornering fog lamps are some good features of new Kicks. It misses out basics like a sunroof, curtain airbags etc., that are available recently facelifted Creta.
Steering is quite quick, which brings a little scare in amateur drivers.

This car is for those who want a good quality car with good looks and ride quality. Can be a problem for a family with tall people. Off-roading is not a big problem, performance is mid-range. Mid-Range performance is expected from Kicks.

Nissan is well known for the economic pricing in every segment and it has kept that specialty here too. Those who have budget constraints can go for it. All the features make Kicks a desirable SUV.
